Summary:

The Toxicologist IV shall provide expertise on chemical contaminant, microbial pathogen, or nutritional exposure assessment from foods, especially work in support of the FDA’s efforts, in maternal and infant health and produce safety, including the Closer to Zero Action Plan, the Toxic Elements Working Group, the FDA Total Diet Study, New Era of Smarter Food Safety, FDA Leafy Greens STEC Action Plan, and related plans.

 

Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions:

  • Collect toxicity and other relevant data related to hazards associated with contaminants and/or natural toxicants present in food to inform scientific assessments.
  • Collect data as part of systematic reviews and hazard evaluations for hazards associated with contaminants and/or natural toxicants present in food.
  • Plan and conduct quality control on data.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams and people to integrate solutions.
  • Evaluate data/studies in laboratory animals, human epidemiological studies, and other sources.
  • Analyze and interpret data using the appropriate techniques and sound scientific principles.
  • Identify data gaps and determine solutions for addressing these gaps.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams and people to integrate solutions.
  • Prepare human health assessments and other scientific and technical assessments that consider hazard identification and dose response relationships based on animal, human, and/or other data.
  • Review scientific and technical reports prepared by others, as needed.

 

 

Qualifications

Necessary Skills and Knowledge:

  • Mastery in applying knowledge in advanced professional theories, principles, concepts, standards, and methods related to toxicology and hazard evaluation.
  • Skilled in planning and organizing work on multiple projects and competing deadlines, and in planning, organizing, and directing scientific studies and related activities.
  • Strong skills in preparing reports and clearly presenting results and conclusions as well as abilities to articulate scientific data and results to diverse staff.
  • Strong skills in communicating scientific analyses or findings, both orally and in writing.
  • Great interpersonal skills.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Toxicology, Pharmacology, Pharmacokinetics and/or a related area.
  • Minimum eight (8) or more years of relevant experience.
  • Experience working with, extracting, evaluating, and interpreting data from relevant sources for use in scientific assessment.

 

 

The salary range for this position is $100,000.00 – $140,000.00 annually.
