Goldbelt Apex, LLC is headquartered in Juneau, Alaska with offices in Herndon, Virginia.

 

Summary:

The Animal Caretaker I will provide daily care and husbandry for research animals. The Contractor shall clean cages, equipment, and the facility, as well as monitor the health and wellbeing of the animals in accordance with all applicable regulations.

Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions:

  • Responsible for coordinating with supervisors on operational and technical duties. 
  • Shall transfer and transport animals, assist with animal procedures, and maintain required documentation.
  • Shall rely on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job.
  • Will rotate with other animal care staff working weekends and holidays in direct support of the Animal Program.
  • Contractor can expect to work 1-2 weekends monthly and will not exceed 40 hours weekly.
  • Contractor can expect to work four federal holidays, on a rotating basis with the other animal care staff.
  • In the event that 24-hour manning is required to meet Animal program requirements, the Contractor will equitably support the mission with the other animal support staff, not to exceed 40-hours weekly.
  • Is required to report during inclement weather and other base closures in direct support of the Animal Program.
  • Shall demonstrate adequate understanding through on-the-job training to meet requirements outlined in the Animal Welfare Act and Animal Welfare Regulations (9 CFR Chapter 1), The Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals, eighth edition, DHA-MSR 6025-02, and Public Law 99-158, and to assure that the facility retains AAALAC accreditation in accordance with DHA-MSR 6025.02 and DoDI 3216.0.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Graduate (minimum)
  • Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT) certification from the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS) must be obtained within 1 year of employment.
  • Experience with laboratory rodents in a research environment.

 

The salary range for this position is $50,042.00 - $52,085.00 per year.
