Overview

As the only aerial tramway in Southeast Alaska, guests at the Goldbelt Tram are invited to soar to new heights in scenic adventure aboard Juneau's top attraction. We offer locals and visitors an opportunity to experience breathtaking Alaska scenery, explore the miles of trails atop Mount Roberts, and learn more about Alaska Native culture. 

 

SUMMARY

 

Responsible for all aspects for the smooth operation of the Chilkat Theater, providing tour and local visitor information and assistance. Full-time and part-time positions available.

 

Pay and Benefits:

Seasonal Employees are eligible for the Seasonal Sign-on Bonus and Layoff Employee Bonus Plan (“Plans”) is designed to provide an effective means to motivate and compensate eligible seasonal employees during the term of their assignment. However, Goldbelt, Inc. may, in certain limited circumstances, grant discretionary performance bonuses outside of this program, in the sole discretion of the Company.

Goldbelt, Inc. hopes that by providing short-term incentive compensation, this will motivate and increase the retention rate among its employees which in turn will enhance Goldbelt Inc.’s long-term value.

 

Starting Wage: DOE $14.00 - DOE

 

Responsibilities

JOB DUTIES

  • Ensure that each customer receives prompt and courteous service.

  • People-oriented and able to provide superior customer service.

  • Display a positive attitude that is contagious, speaking highly of the company in the presence of customers or other associates.

  • Maintain an excellent customer service level to all incoming and outgoing cruise ship, special group or local passengers, meets and greets all potential tramway guests; provides tram and visitor information; gives directions to the viewing areas, gift shops, restaurant, and other locations; explains the details of the theater performance. Will give a personal introduction in their native language and then translate the introduction in English to guests in a 120-seat theater.

  • Will give guests a short Tlingit language lesson and synopsis of the film “Seeing Daylight” prior to starting the film for viewing.

  • Operate a projector and necessary equipment to play the film.

  • Will use a PA (public address system) to encourage guests at the mountain top to come and view what is offered at the Chilkat Theater. Will also use the PA to promote other venues of the tramway or advise guests of restaurant closures, specials in the gift shop and remind guests of closing times in the mountain house.

  • Constantly applies effective practices and techniques of providing excellent customer service to all incoming and outgoing passengers; seeks and follows advice provided by Lead Host or Lead Ticket Agent or Guest Services Supervisor in improving customer service skills and becoming more familiar with tour and visitor information.

  • Performs other incidental and related duties as required and assigned.

Qualifications

NECESSARY SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

  • Ability to meet time and attendance requirements.

  • Ability to work all different shifts including holidays and weekends.

  • Ability to attend all scheduled meetings, orientations and training sessions.

  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.

  • Ability to learn, understand, and follow oral and written instructions/directions.
  • Skill in operating personal computer utilizing a variety of computer software.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with other employees.

  • Ability to work directly with the public, providing information and assistance on a daily basis.

  • Ability to handle stress under pressure.

  • Ability/willingness to learn and pass on to guests those areas of interest to visitors, such as local history, people, culture, geography, etc.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (education, experience, skills)

  • Six (6) months of paid or volunteer customer service experience.

  • One (1) season of host or closely related experience involved with tourism, travel, and/or hospitality services.

  • Interest in our regional culture (Tlingit, Haida or Tsimshian), whether taking classes, involved in dance groups or volunteering in Native organizations such as ANB/ANS, culture clubs in school or civic organizations, cultural workshops or making traditional arts and crafts.

  • Ability to successfully pass a background check.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (education, experience, skills)

  • Current CPR and first aid certificates
  • Drug testing may be required
